the joys of winter storms

I just got back inside from doing my duty to my neighborhood by shoveling my and my neighbor's sidewalks just in time for the high school to let out.

But as I went out to the garage to fetch my shovel, I recalled that I had thrown out my old shovel, which had broken on last year's ice. So I drove the Saab down to Ace Hardware bought a shovel - a special new kind this year with plastic that doesn't stick to snow. Well, snow does kinda stick to it, but not much, considering how snowball-happy is this snowfall. And gosh but is one of those snow-pushers a nice thing! Except when then catch on the sidewalk edges, oof.

What a good citizen you are!

I'm sure you burned enough calories to allow you to eat the rest of this home-made chocolate pecan bark that one of my grad students brought in, right?

I'm getting older - when I moved to VT I bought a shovel that has the bent handle so that one doesn't have to lean over quite as much - one of my better decisions - I've had to buy more over the past decade as plastic has a finite life in VT winters, and have repeated. Much less back strain, IMO, than with a straight-handled shovel.

Gosh, it's like we live in entirely different universes. It was so warm here yesterday that I wore a summer dress and was perfectly comfortable. (!) I'm jealous of the snow and the actual winter you're getting--but I'm also sure I would get over that pretty fast if I actually had to shovel said snow.

Well, this is Kansas. We could have that weather by Tuesday. Who knows?

My intention is to continue shoveling as I do now until I need the regeneration treatments. Then it'll be easy again *g*
