I've replaced the cap, rotor, and spark plugs on my newly aquired 1983 VW Rabbit Convertible. I've gone through all the fuses and replaced four of them that were bad. I've replaced the fuel filter assembly. I've fully charged the battery and tried starting it with the charger set on "jump-start." I even dumped in five gallons of gasoline, just in case an empty tank was the problem (funny how old cars don't work well without any gas). Heck, I even bought a new top kit, with outside material, new headliner, new foam liner, and new cables. Haven't installed it yet 'cause, well, what's the point if it ain't running yet?

So I'm getting good spark, the fuel pump appears to be working (lots of gasoline spray when replacing the filter), and there's no air obstruction or vacuum leakage (though I'm replacing the air filter tomorrow), but I'm not smelling any unburned gas as I ought to.

Hmmm. I'm thinking an issue with the complicated, mechanical fuel-injection system.

Anyone out there have experience troubleshooting this issue?
