To infinity and BEYOND!

Astro-image of the day: Apollo photos going digital

Remember the Apollo missions? To the Moon? If you do, you're probably aware of how rare the images are, generally 2nd and 3rd generation by the time you see them. And the movies? Good luck seeing one of those... until now.

Now all that has changed!

"Due to the historical significance of the original flight films, typically only duplicate film products are currently available for study and used to make prints. To allow full access to the original flight films for both researchers and the general public, Johnson Space Center and Arizona State University's Space Exploration Resources are scanning and creating an online digital archive of all the original Apollo flight films. Through this online interface, users may browse through the archive and download any of the images."

Go here to browse and view the archives. It's a darned slow site, and they just started work, but it's well worth it.
